This past Spring Training, I had the opportunity to work with an MLB team providing on-site meditation sessions for players. Meditation, just like yoga, can take many different forms. I wanted to introduce these players to meditation and show them there were many different ways to meditate. There is no one way that works for everyone. The goals for our sessions were to teach players to remain focused during the game. No matter the game outcome, good or bad, we worked on strategies to stay present in the moment.
Each session with this team began with a breathing exercise followed by a systematic full body relaxation. After that, there was a short, guided meditation. Gentle stretches were provided before and after each session.
